Cinio and I left Porto on 11 July and flew to Leon in France. We travelled to Trameye’s to stay with the Wilkie family. We were welcomed in their beautiful LA GRANGE FLEURIE Chambers D’Hotes.  A stunning Hotes (Hotel) with a warm atmosphere. We were honored to celebrate Robert’s birthday in style in their garden with a braai upon our arrival.

The next morning, we woke up to an awesome breakfast. We were all fired up to represent our country with wearing our South African shirts and taking our proud flag with us. Cinio and I hired E bikes, which sure entertained us all. Cinio had chopper handle bars and mine looked like they were good for the aged, never mind the weight they had on them. Were we happy to have the E-bikes to be able to keep up with Karen, Robert and Marius with their light mountain bikes. We made sure we were early at the stage 8.We parked our bikes put up our flag had a lunch and waited for the caravan. What an experience this was, we behaved like children trying to catch any free goodies to take home for a souvenir.  An awesome view to see the busses, and cars pass, we sure were hyped up and almost time to see the riders come zooming by. We were ready to aim our cameras to video the finish, knowing they come around the corner would just be in a flash. Our glimpse and pictures of riders was well managed. All the excitement to view a few seconds sure was a great feeling. We headed back home after finishing a good 86km ride.

Stage 9the following day was a hill climb view. Rob had his Garmin set up for us. We rode 25km out to, Le Perreon Auvergne-Rhone. We had a few tough climbs to ride. I was ever so grateful for the E-bike to climb those monster hills, after all, I did not have Apie to help push me the hills. We managed to find a great spot to ensure our flag was visible hoping the helicopter would film us for everyone to spot us. We managed to get a great view of the riders. I spotted Daryl Impey and shouted out his name and he gave us a high five wave which just made our day. We ended our tour with lots of laughter and pit stops at the pubs for the two-day tour. A great adventure and appreciation to the Wilkie family.

This was an adventure to be remembered and a bucket list for any rider to complete.
