A while ago Carlos approached me asking to do a blanket ride for some of the villages that we ride through, it has been a wish of his for a long time and you know when you ask the DOC family for help they always overdo it.
So on Sunday morning Carlos and his ACE Vanture arrive at Rietvlei and we fill the bakkie with blankets and Easter eggs and head off to the land of the angry farmer. As we approached the Village at the bottom of Big Wattle, Carlos in true TAXI fashion blows that hooter that I shat myself. The villages were still sleeping except for one of the village Mammas who was quick to raise those still tucked away.
What an awesome feeling to share with others that have so little too see those little faces light up with sheer delight, mothers would have had their hands full with the amount Easter eggs the children consumed they must have been bouncing off the walls the whole day. For a change these kids didn’t have to say “Give me Chocolates Give me Sweets as we ride past there village”. The mothers and fathers wrapped themselves immediately in the blankets that had been provide by the DOC family which will keep them warm this winter.
On this special day we supplied blankets and chocolates to 3 of the villages that we ride past/through basically every weekend so you can pat yourself on the back knowing that you have provided some warmth and hope to the villagers.
Carlos’s biggest wish is collect enough blankets to supply the village at the tree line or what may be left of the tree line one day.
Just a thought…………perhaps we do a plant a tree day to give back to mother earth on Arbor Day.
